3 moths worth scrap pile

Three months worth scrap bundle... April/May/June Ladies and Gentlemen.

Buzz Astral from the Toy Story.
Wanted to visualize him, make front, back and side view and then model it but I lost all the interest.

Some poses and stuff. I gave them smileys with the attitudes I wanted them to have, I choose one and started the refinemant process...Basically I wanted to do something similar to what I did few years ago.

(which you can see here ^^ and you can see the entire process here).

Wanting and starting is sadly all I did :/

Next one is generic soldier. I'll show you process of his creation later, but I'm stuck here and I'm not willing to push it further.
He has decent topology - totally ready for animation but I gave him so heavy and complex shader (textures and all that stuff) I can't open it with Blender without getting a crash every 40 seconds :D
I've fucked up big time... I know what NOT to do now...

That guy^^ this one wasn't meant to be animated so it has some clipping problems.
I modelled him, left a town for a week, and when I was back I decided to do some Rigging/shape keys animating.
It looks cringy - but it serves its purpose, which is showing that I have layered animation.
I have some mid-process renders so you may expect entire post about him as well.

Then I wanted to redesign the Nonosuit from the Crysis game. Fantastic design BTW.
In a game a suit had symbiotic relation with its user. I tried to give it more parasitic look. For example spine and helmet form that "facehugger" (the one from Alien films) shape and all the metal parts look (at least from behind) like the were wrapping around him.

I wasn't happy with the first try so I scrapped it and stuck on torso muscles retopology...

Some thumbnail of storm painting. Had like 6 of the on a page but it looks like I cropped it, left as it was and saved that way...

Some female face painting practice.

I'm trying to create some reusable 3D assets that I could use in the future.
Low-poli tent model with applied normals map. Those stretching lines (or whatever they're called) are just simple double sided 2D planes so two of them are not visible at this angle. Sorry for potato render.

The last one I've finished yesterday and you'll definitely see process pics in few days.
I was pissed off by the Crysis guy fail, so I decided to do something easier so the generic future soldier bust it is!

That's it.

14 Day challenge - Day 14 and summary

I wasn't updating you for a while... Well - I'm lazy ass. That's why.

I finished my 14 days challenge for female faces.
It went pretty good. I've learned a lot.

I don't feel like recapping all the comments and tips I got.
I encourage you to check it by yourself on my G+ - the icon is somewhere on right side I think. At least on PC.

If you don't care what I did and you're here just to check the results I'm uploading here full resolution pics for every day.

The moment I write this I'm on my day #5 of my male faces 14DC so you can expect recap like this somewhen in mid April.
If you're considering participating in 14DC yourself then stop considering and participate...
There's no drawbacks and no one will give a single flying... Yeah... Basically you can post or twice a week and you'll still be able to progress really fast.

That's it.

Monthly scraps - February 2017

So yeah...
When it comes to unfinished stuff that month was dry.
I started the 14DC so I have less time for fucking around and even 'tho I've somehow menaged to produce some crap.

I don't know if I'll finish any of them at all.
I mean I've already saved like 10GB of not so big *.png-s.

I like quite few of them as the ideas but I'll be able to pull them out as I see them in my mind maybe in 1-2 years from now.

 I'll make 14DC summary after graduation or something.
 If you want to see all the images I made for that challenge my Google+ profile is linked somewhere on the right side. Just scroll until you find it.
 Also if you're curious what the 14DC is you can check it HERE. << won't hurt you but may help.

14 day challenge - DAY 4

Day #4 change-log:
-head is even wider;
-shadow on the sides of the head is gradually lighter toward the top of the skull;
-eyebrows are lighter on the outer side;
-lips are shaded more gradually;
-added more prominent shadow under the lower lip;

Day #5 was total brainfart but you'll see that tomorrow by yourself.

14 day challenge - DAY 3

Day #3

-Shorter head;
-shadows are lighter on top of the head;
-bottom edges of the irises are more visible;
-the water line of  the eye is brightest in the middle;
-lips are more soft and change to skin gradually;
-head looks rounder and more like a ball or egg;
-eyebrows are darker the closer they get to the nose bridge;
-got rid of that disturbing specular highlight on eyes.

Oh, and the point of that entire challenge is to paint a face from a scratch to get faster and more accurate with every painting.
Those changes are changes in my workflow and habits, not simple tweaks done within one painting.

14 day challenge - DAY 2

I'm currently working on my day #4 but for you I got just a day #2 painting.
I must admit - number #1 and #2 look derpy as f***.
Those are one of the worst faces I recently painted.

Following advice of fellow artists I :
-lightened up the background to make the face pop-out;
-widened the septum of the nose;
-made the lower eyelid more pointy at the outer ends;
-made eyes bigger;
-tried to make head shorter and wider but it came out roughly the same size as day #1 (yeah... brainfarts are real);

Day #3 is much better but we'll get to that tomorrow.

14 day challenge - DAY 1

I'm participating in Istebrak's 14 day challenge.

I struggle a lot with faces, so I decided to fix that.
I mean I can draw a face but whether or not it will be appealing is almost totally random.
I mentioned in the very first post I want to be more consistent so that may be good decision.

That's day #1

More to come,

Monthly scraps - December 2016

Scraps - part... whatever

At the beginning of the month I was into perspective and all.
I grabbed a pencil and started constructing buildings and stuff. I was doing this for a week or so, and then I jumped into the Krita, and it didn't work out.
I mean I lost fate in my own brain activity after I shifted the bell tower in the wrong direction. Twice.

she's so hot she ain't need no worm clothes to fight a gang of penguins in snow blizzard... or something.

embracing anime-ish vibe

I had no idea how to draw snakes, so I needed some "studies". More like visual notes really.
It wasn't suppose to look good.

smoking -self-explanatory really

after Leyendecker studies I wanted to recap knowledge I acquired so I started this.

That's all for now,

Anime_something_something

^^ I named original file like that and well...

When I'm exporting step-by-step pics I have that tendency of calling them with the first letters of whatever words I've used in the original name.
For example exports for Cell_shaded_01 would sound something like "CS_export_01.png", "CS_export_02.png" and so on and on...
That name may cause some confusion...

Any ways - I kind of pushed myself once again a bit further than I was...

I've never rendered clothes (wasn't event drawing them that much - really :D), wet surfaces.
Never made full illustration. Never drawn properly looking hands...
Basically 70% of what you see here I did for the first time and I failed.
I mean not tremendously, but failed.

Every time my friend was pointing out a defect in my piece, I was like "eh... artistic liberties", "too hard" or "I'll fix it later" but I didn't.
It's not that I don't want to fix these mistakes. I rather draw something from scratch than fix something that I was working on for last 6 hours...
I can scrap things I know I can redraw in no time but stuff I don't know how to draw... that's another story.
Now I at least know on what I should focus more.

But let's talk about something that happened rather than something that didn't - shall we?

I knew I wanted to do something that resembles images of people like Marc Brunet, WLOP, Evan Lee or Saejin Oh.
Especially Saejin Oh.

^^made her butt a bit too big (I mean that's what my friend said :D) so I toned it down.

I know that I know nothing about drawing torso(all these diagonal torso muscles), so even if I knew that none of these muscles will be visible later on, I decided to sketch them just for the sake of practice.
I do that from time to time.

^^That's the typical for me manifestation of frustration

I started with B&W values and blocked out composition.

Then I started the refinement process and of course forgot about making all that step by step mambo-jambo.

^^If you're not sure what to do try making some notes about what you want to achieve or at least what you don't want.
You can always change your mind half way through as I did.
And yup - my writing is that terrible.

So long.
